Modern Mocha

All the time, people ask me if coffee is okay to drink. 

​

There is nothing inherently wrong with coffee, when used appropriately. Meaning, you aren't relying on it as a method of recovering after continuously depriving yourself of sleep. AND, you aren't drinking it first thing in the morning on it's own. 

​

Here's the deal, when we drink coffee on its own first thing in the morning, we interfere with the natural cortisol increase that helps us wake up in the morning. Take advantage of that natural boost in energy AND the boost from caffeine by holding off on your coffee until the first dip in natural energy, which for most people, is between 9:30-11:30am (based on a waking time of around 6:30am).

Better yet, boost your caffeine by adding some nutrients to your coffee. There are so many nourishing ways to make your coffee delicious beyond the classic cream, sugar, and syrups of yesterday. The Modern Mocha is one way to do just that. With a few key ingredients and a high speed blender, your mid-morning ritual is easily leveled-up!

The protein and good fat added to this drink help to utilize the caffeine in a more beneficial way without adding more stress to the body, while also making it a bit of a mid-morning snack!

Preparation Time:  5 minutes
Ingredients:

2 cups coffee or 2 shots of espresso (add hot water to desired volume)

1 Tablespoon hemp hearts 

1 Tablespoon collagen hydrolysate 

1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon maple syrup

Put everything into a high speed blender. Blend on high for one minute. Pour and enjoy.
